After a long time heard Beatles' "Girl" last night. Had even forgotten the song but as the guy started singing all the words came back. When I think that I knew the lyrics to ALL Beatles songs, ALL S&G and nearly all America songs.....
I had 4 audio cassettes and limited pocket money. This was before the days of CDs and free downloads ( I hate to think how many years before). So all that I could do was record the present favourite over what was already there. Finally there came a time when all I could hear was a hisssss.
But it was fun anyway. Lyrics were learnt by holding the record player close to the ear and with a lot of guess work.
I didnt realise that the Liverpool boys were such a big hit with the present generations too. Kichu has heard a fair number of their songs.
I think I shall ask him to download them for me and I shall be transported back to my college days.
The joys of technology!!!!!!

darling aandy... i remember the days ... ya i was an eighties kid too. amma and achan gave Sandy an me one tape player the play button was broken and we had to stick our finger into the player to push the remain part of the knob to play the three tapes we owned one being chris de burgh. we only heard lady in red an lip synced. a fact i now realize i don't really need to share.also the recording of radio shows . where evry thing down to the ads used to get recorded.. but that pursuit of music was so much better. i think technology has taken that away..really nothing like a squeaky tape playing we didn't start the fire and jumping on a bed with sandy pretending our tennis rackets were guitars....
Anil
